Entry #10: Menstrual Cups - If talk of periods makes you squeamish look away now!

A friend of mine recently sent in the following email to me. It would be good to hear of others' experience of using these - on the web there are a lot of positive reports!

The cups are available from a number of companies listed on Green England as well as larger Boots stores.

Hi Penny,

Just wanted to let you know that I've been using a menstrual cup rather than tampons or sanitary towels for about 6 months now -- and I won't go back! This was a long journey for me, as I first found out about menstrual cups in 1998, and planned to get one but just never got around to it.

Finally last summer I enquired about a menstrual cup at my local shop that sells FairTrade and environmentally friendly products. It wasn't stocked, but the owner gladly ordered the MoonCup for me. I understand that they're stocked by larger Boots shops but I preferred to get it from a local shop.

I won't go into any detail but it did take a bit of getting used to. Let's just say it seemed a bit messy at first. But I soon got the hang of it and now feel that my period goes by almost un-noticed. I even have to empty the cup on a timetable so I don't forget about it.
